Crossing the Line

Research output: Non-Textual OutputExhibition

Abstract

"Crossing the Line" was a travelling exhibition. The project incorporated video, audio, drawing, and improvisation. Through incessant repetition of an ineffectual phrase, “crossing the line”, Gant queried the values of middle American religious leaders who attempt to enthuse their congregations with repetition and empty analogies. Through the dialogue Gant improvised the vocal gestures, acting out and embedding mark-making through intuition and experimentation with pencil on paper. This innovative process initiated new insights into drawing approaches to traditional and new media processes. "Crossing the Line" was selected for the international exhibition "Create, Observe, Perform" at the Alkovi Galeria, Helsinki, and for the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2012, the UK’s leading award in drawing – both of which provided further forums of dissemination.
