Abstract
In this symposium presentation I will explore some of the key themes around ownership of historical narrative related to Punk and examine:
Punk as a ‘collective’ shared memory constructed from mainly collaborative events, so individual ownership is contentious
Punk as an evolving ‘methodology’ of resistance
Punk as being in ‘context’ to other lived experiences which helped shape its specific nature in different places
Control of cultural production normally dominated by various forms of ‘media’
DIY punk as an alternative site of resistance and negotiation to this dominance and control
