Biography

I am a Reader in English with specialisms in contemporary women's writing, trauma narratives and children's literature. My publications include Decolonizing Trauma Studies: Trauma and Postcolonialism. (MDPI, 2016); Trauma Narratives and Herstory. (co-edited with Silvia Pellicer-Ortin, Palgrave Macmillan, 2013); Angela Carter: New Critical Readings. (co-edited with Lawrence Phillips, Continuum, 2012); Jeanette Winterson. New British Fiction Series. (Palgrave Macmillan, 2009). I am currently working on the representation of class in contemporary women's writing.

 

Research Interests

My research interests are in the following areas: 

Contemporary women’s writing

Twentieth and twenty-first century literature;

Trauma narratives

Young adult literature

Representations of gender, race and class

I would welcome applications from doctoral students working in any of these fields.

Teaching Interests

I currently teach on the following modules at BA level: Contemporary Women’s Writing; and From the Fairy Tale to the Contemporary Child Hero; and at MA level: Trauma Fiction; Gender, Sexuality & Writing the Body; Contemporary Gothic Literature.
