Biography

Lucy joined the University of Northampton in September 2017as a Senior Lecturer in Education. Prior to this Lucy has been a teacher for 21 years in a variety of different schools across Northamptonshire. She has taken on several different leadership roles including head of school and assistant head teacher. She has led different subjects across the curriculum and has led mathematics and science across two different federations of schools. As a mathematics specialist she has been a leading teacher for Northamptonshire and an advanced skills teacher (AST) leading in mathematics and assessment. This role has also led to her become a mathematics specialist teacher (MAsT) and a Mastery specialist teacher for the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM).

She is now a Senior Lecturer in the Initial Teacher Training team in the Faculty of Health, Education and Society and is currently the Programme leader for the PGCE 5-11 with QTS and the Curriculum Lead for Professional studies across both the BA and PGCE programme. She is Module Leader for one of the level 7 modules ‘Teaching, learning and Assessment’ on the PGCE which is a 30-credit module at level 7.

Lucy has supervised several undergraduate dissertations since she joined the University of Northampton.

Research Interests

Lucy's research activities focus on the use of the mastery approach for mathematics and undergraduate perceptions of confidence and self-efficacy in mathematics. She is also interested in dyscalculia and the effects that this may have on self-concept in mathematics.
