Biography

Dr Mairi Mulvenna was appointed as Lecturer in Sport Psychology at the University of Northampton in September 2019. Mairi achieved her Bachelors (Hons) degree in Sport Science from St Mary’s University, Twickenham and remained there to complete her master’s degree in Applied Sport Psychology.

Following this, Mairi went on to undertake a PhD at Coventry University titled “Motivational Determinants Underpinning The Optimal and Diminished Functioning of Adult Sport Performers: A Test of A Theoretically Integrated Achievement Goal and Self-Determination Approach”. Following the successful publication of the first paper from her PhD thesis (see 'Outputs' below), she is currently in the process of preparing the remaining manuscripts to send off to a number of peer-reviewed international journals.

Mairi's research expertise surrounds athlete motivation, well- and ill-being, and performance, but she also has interests in stress, anxiety, and emotions in sport.
