Project Details

Description

Fermynwoods Contemporary Art partner with The CE Academy to provide alternative education for young people who are permanently excluded from school, dual registered and for school age mothers, responding to the educational needs of pupils who would otherwise be attending mainstream/special schools principally within Northamptonshire. Students visit our remote rural outreach base in Fermyn Woods to participate in a wide variety of artist led workshops for the entire academic year. Many of the students achieve Arts Award qualifications (equivalent to passing grades at GCSE) despite their age and existing setbacks. Many students also successfully return to mainstream education after working with us.

The positive impact this has upon students is vast, but has yet to be fully articulated. We propose to work with the Special Educational Needs team at University of Northampton to observe, interview and capture this data in a framework which is done with the young people rather than to them, championing their voices.
