Biography

Gillian Siddall is an Academic Librarian based in Library and Learning Services (LLS) at the University of Northampton. Gillian qualified as a Librarian with a master’s in Information and Library Management. She has experience in further and higher education. Gillian is committed to lifelong learning and has a post-graduate qualification in teaching in Higher Education, is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Chartered Member of CILIP (the library and information association). Gillian has also been a committee member on a number of national CILIP special interest groups including Libraries for Nursing and the Library and Information Research Group.

In her role as an Academic Librarian, Gillian supports students to develop their information literacy skills, through large group and one-to-one teaching. Gillian works with students from foundation level to post-doctoral research. Her work with students and staff in the health professional areas has informed her research interests.

Research Interests

As an Academic Librarian Gillian is passionate about supporting people to gain confidence and skills in finding and using information. Her focus on information literacy has developed into research projects around the use of reading lists as a pedagogical tool. She has also looked at student engagement with information literacy online tutorials. Information literacy underpins all areas of her research focus, and she is keen to explore students transition to post-graduate study and how they adapt their information seeking practices.

Gillian is happy to share her experience as a practitioner researcher to support colleagues in LLS and the library and information sector to develop their own research skills.
