Biography
Alexia is a Senior Lecturer in Education and Special Educational Needs (SEN) at the University of Northampton in the United Kingdom (UK). She has over five years of teaching experience at various Higher Education Institutions in the UK, Ireland, Cyprus, and Greece. As an experienced Qualified Teacher, Alexia has previously taught in both SEN and mainstream early years settings in Greece and the UK. She has also served as a co-opted governor and Chair of the Curriculum Committee in a special school in the UK. In addition to her teaching and practical experience, Alexia is passionate about research. She has been extensively involved as a researcher in various national and international research projects, focusing on SEN education and Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL). Her research interests lie in the field of autism, and her PhD explored key stakeholders’ perspectives regarding iPad practices for autistic pupils’ social communication and emotional regulation.
Alexia has previously worked as a Research Associate in various Universities in the UK and is now a member of the Centre for Active Digital Education (CADE) at the University of Northampton. She is involved in projects that explore the use of digital technologies for learning and inclusion. She is also an Honorary Research Associate of the Centre for Higher Education Research Practice Policy and Scholarship (CHERPPS) of the University of East Anglia.
Alexia’s publications focus on TEL practices, autism, specific learning difficulties and communities of practice. Her research outputs include peer-reviewed papers, conference oral/poster presentations, and project reports.
